Farmers’ protest 2024: Tensions are brewing once more at the Delhi-Haryana borders, as farmers from Haryana and Punjab are gathering to renew their protests against the central government. Loan waiver, a contentious demand that has sparked heated debates and divided opinions, remains at the forefront of their grievances. Farmers from across the country are joining this protest. With talks between farmer leaders and the government yielding no concrete results, the simmering discontent threatens to erupt into another wave of demonstrations.

Governments are not waiving off loans of farmers 

Farmers across the country are protesting against the central government to make an Amendment Act on MSP for farmers. A huge number of farmers gathered at Delhi borders to come Delhi for starting the protest for MSP in 2020. But the central government has discussed with the farmer leaders and ensured to amend the price of MSP. But after 4 years of promise, government has not made any arrangement for farmers MSP, so farmers from Punjab and Haryana are again gathering at Delhi Haryana border to come at Delhi to start a protest campaign.

However state police of Punjab, Haryana in Delhi are allowing them to enter in the capital. So they are gathering at Delhi borders with tractors and their vehicles to strengthen the protest.

Farmer Loan Relief after Independence 

State Government and Central government are time to time providing the relief for their cropping loan. However national government has started only limited campaign for waving off the farmer loans. During the emergency period in 1975, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had also announced a nationwide agricultural debt waiver in response to the demands of the farmers’ movement. However the proper waving of loan campaign by the central government was conducted in the leadership of prime minister VP Singh in 1990.

The government had expanded approximately 10000 crore rupees as a relief fund for waving of the debts of farmers. After this the UPA government with the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at 2008 started Agricultural Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme involved an outgo of Rs 71,680 crore. After this government have not introduced any nationwide loan waving campaign for farmers in the country. But you state governments are running multiple campaigns for the Welfare of farmers in their state.

Central Government scheme for farmers 

Apart from the waving of the loan amount of farmers, the government is also running multiple schemes for welfare and financial assistance of the farmer including Pradhanmantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. It was started at 2019 by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide 6000 rupees financial assistance annually to the registered farmers with pm Kisan portal. The scheme is providing Rs 2000 into installments of 4 month in the bank account of farmers so they can purchase important and essential items for farming.

Apart from this standard government is also running Pradhanmantri Kisan Mandhan scheme to enable farmers to get pension after getting the age of 60. Pradhanmantri fasal Bima Yojana and rashtriy Krishi Bima Yojana are starting to help for those farmers whose crops have been destroyed in any natural.

Opposition on former protest 2024 

The Congress party, one of the main opposition parties in India, has criticized the government’s handling of the protests, saying that it has not done enough to address the concerns of the farmers. The party has also accused the government of using excessive force against the protesters. The Aam Aadmi Party has expressed support for the farmers’ protests. The party has said that the government should listen to the demands of the farmers and allow them to come to the capital Delhi and work to resolve the issue.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the ruling party in India, has defended its handling of the farmers’ protests. The party has said that it is committed to the welfare of the farmers and that it is implementing a number of schemes to improve their lives
