Duleep Trophy 2024: The senior men’s Indian domestic cricket season 2024–25 is going to get started with the Duleep Trophy tournament in early September 2024. Before the India home test series and the India tour of Australia, this tournament is going to be played mainly as a preparatory event. There are going to be some changes in the structure and overall system of the Duleep Trophy.
This tournament is usually played in a zonal format across six zones of the country. The Duleep Trophy is a tournament that gives the red-ball hopefuls of India a chance to shine. In the last season of the Duleep Trophy, Hanuma Vihari led the south zone and won the title by beating the west zone by 75 runs in the finals of the tournament in Bengaluru.

However, the board of control for cricket in India has decided to do away with the six-team zonal format and zonal selections this time. Instead of the head for teams, namely India A, India B, India C, and India D, they are going to feature in the tournament test time. The Senior National Selection Committee, chaired by Ajit Agarkar, is going to select the teams.
This year, the Duleep Trophy is going to be played in a Robin League-based format with no knockout matches. After three rounds, the team that stands in the top position is going to be declared the winner.

The upcoming Duleep Trophy will be played mainly at the two venues within the Anantapur ground complex in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.
The one match from the first round is also going to be held at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. From September 5 to September 22 the tournament will take place in three rounds.

Few players of India Cricket team who have been asked to play in Duleep Trophy 2024 including Shubhman Gill, KL Rahul, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kuldeep Yadav. Although there is no confirmation if both Rohit and Kohli are going to take part in the Duleep Trophy tournament or not, the majority of other test stars and hopefuls are going to represent various teams.
Last month, during a media interaction, Agarkar expressed his wish to see not all but a few international players take part in the Duleep Trophy. Agarkar has said, “It is nice for the competition if all your top players come and play. It is not easy with such a packed and long season; it is hard for the players if we have a week off somewhere to make them play. There will be some in the square who will be playing in the tournament.
The Duleep Trophy was started in 1961–62 and, over the years, has undergone a number of changes. From a six-team competition, it has now been changed to a four-team affair with teams including India and Bangladesh. India C and India D.
