National Payment Corporation of India has directed all the banks and UPI companies such as Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay, etc to deactivate all the UPI IDs which are not been used by the customer for 1 year. The authority has decided deadline to deactivate the UPI IDs of this customer till 31 December 2023. After that users cannot use their UPI ID if the ID is not activated for at least one year. There are multiple companies and mobile applications that provide UPI Payment services and you can apply for multiple UPI IDs. So many customers in India are managing more than one UPI ID. Most UPI IDs are linked with the mobile number of the customer, once any customer changes the mobile number, this should also linked with the UPI ID with the new mobile number, So all UPI IDs that are living with older mobile numbers will be deactivated if user do not used them from 1 year. New customers who want to apply for a new UPI ID with a mobile number have to face trouble if their number is already linked with another UPI ID. TRAI Guidelines for deactivating mobile number
If you are not using your mobile number for at least 90 days, then the Telecom provider can sell your mobile number to a new customer and deactivate your existing number. However, Telecom providing companies take a long time for their customers to reactivate their existing mobile numbers. But if you have not used the mobile number for 90 days or do not have recharged the mobile number then the company can sell it without confirming you.
After that, you are all the OTPs and other information that is linked with the one mobile number that will be sent to the new customer who is using the mobile number currently. So if anyone has linked UPI with an old mobile number then they should update their mobile number when the UPI ID.
Reactivate UPI ID before 31 December
