Batman: The Animated Series Netflix Release Date: When Batman: The Animated Series first arrived in 1992, it took a much more mature approach to superhero TV and movies than anything before it. Kevin Conroy’s voice work as Bruce Wayne/Batman was paired with brilliant character depth and psychological stories. The show also crafted iconic portrayals of villains like Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Mr. Freeze that still influence other Batman media to this day.

Batman: The Animated Series
Debuting in 1992, Batman: The Animated Series may look like a children’s cartoon designed to sell action figures on the surface, but it’s richer than that. Not only does it display the Caped Crusader as a watchful protector with an unshakable code of justice, but it also explores Bruce Wayne’s damaged psyche in ways that are surprisingly nuanced and dark. Plus, it gave the world an iconic new villain in Harley Quinn. It completely transformed other fan-favorites like Mr. Freeze, transforming him from a gimmicky mad scientist to a tragic figure who was ravaged by love and vengeance in his icy heart.
It’s no wonder that the animated series has become an icon in its own right. It is considered by many to be the best adaptation of Batman ever made, and it has paved the way for other live-action and animated takes on the character. While some may complain that each adaptation brings something different to the table, the fact is that all of them have contributed to Batman’s rich legacy.

The show starred Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill in his iconic performance as the Joker. However, there were plenty of other voices behind the mic as well. Among them were John Glover, Danny DeVito, Ed Asner, and Tim Curry. The cast was rounded out by an impressive ensemble of villains, with voice acting aplenty. Other notable voice performances include the Penguin’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth, and Ra’s al Ghul’s assistant, Talia. Other foes include Two-Face, Killer Croc, and Man-Bat.
