According to the EPFO’s latest circular Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation – EPFO on 16 January 2024, The organization will not accept Aadhar cards from the members of EPFO who are continuously participating in the provident fund scheme for date of birth verification. The Aadhar card is a very famous and important document in India that is used for multiple services and most of the services accept Aadhar Card only. But some organizations are using Aadhar cards for date of birth proof also. However Aadhar card is not designed for date of birth proof but it is a proof of Identity of a person in India.
EPFO New Rule 2024: Aadhaar Card is Not Valid for DOB Proof
EPFO has released this circular by following the guidelines of UIDAI which are monitoring Aadhar Card and Aadhar Card-related activities. The authority has released a directive in 2023 for those Agencies and authorities who are using Aadhar cards as a birth of proof. According to the circular of UIDAI, the Aadhar card is a unique identification card of a person in India according to the Aadhar Act 2016, but the act does not mention Aadhar as a date of birth of also, so the Aadhar Card cannot be used for age verification purpose.
UIDAI has identified that the Aadhar card is still used for age verification as a birth proof document, so by saying this scenario, UIDAI has released a separate circular in 2023 and released a directive for companies and agencies to not consider Aadhar as the date of birth proof. So now EPFO has also followed these directives and was earlier accepting Aadhar cards for date of birth verification.

The Aadhar card is the 12-digit unique Identification number of a person in India that carries multiple information about a person such as address information, photo identity, demographic information, and biometric information such as fingerprint and iris. It is an important document that is linked with many schemes and Agencies that suggest PAN cards, banks, educational institutions, business organizations, etc.
So authorities can verify the identification of a person by checking a 12-digit unique Aadhar card number. But still, it is not the date of birth proof according to the Aadhar Act 2016. So EPFO members who want to change their date of birth have to show another document for age verification in further. If you are applying for age verification then you should also carry other than the Aadhar Card document to the department.

Date of birth proof in EPFO
As mentioned the Aadhar card is no longer the date of birth document in EPFO so you need to carry any document of the following if you wish to change or verify your date of birth in the organization:
- Birth certificate: The birth certificate is the first document of a child which is generated by the Registrar of birth and date in the district magistrate office.
- 10th class certificate: If you have 10 to pass person then you can also carry a 10th Class marksheet and certificate for date of birth verification.
- School leaving certificate is also considered as the date of birth proof which may be important for those who do not complete 10th class and leave the school between the schooling.
Apart from this, you can also carry a PAN card, service place documents, and other than the Aadhar Card documents where your date of birth is mentioned so multiple documents can increase your chances of date of birth verification at EPFO.
